What is more important Faith or Prayer?
Mark 9:24 & 29
V24 – “The attitude of trust and confidence that the Bible calls belief or faith is not something we can obtain without help. Faith is a gift from God. No matter how much faith we have, we never reach the point of being self-sufficient. Faith is not stored away like money in the banks. Growing in faith is a constant process of daily renewing our trust in Jesus” (NLT LASB).
V29 – “The disciples would often face difficult situations that could be resolved only through prayer. Prayer is the key that unlocks faith in our life. Effective prayer needs both the attitude of complete dependence and the actions of asking. Prayer demonstrates our reliance on God as we humbly invite him to fill us with faith and power. There is no substitute for prayer, especially in circumstances that seem impossible” (NLT LASB).
What are some thoughts you have from these two verses and their study notes?
Are the verses and study notes parallel to each other?
How can you apply Faith and Prayer to your lives?
Compare and Contrast
Mark 8:34-38 are interesting verses. It is even more interesting when compared to a different bible translation. Compare and Contrast the two bible translations and comment on its similarities and differences.
New International Version
34Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
Easy to Read Version
34Then Jesus called the crowd and his followers to him. He said, “Any of you who want to be my follower must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me. 35Any of you who try to save the life you have will lose it. But you who give up your life for me and for the Good News will save it. 36It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost. 37You could never pay enough to buy back your life. 38People today are so sinful. They have not been faithful to God. As you live among them, don’t be ashamed of me and my teaching. If that happens, I will be ashamed of you when I come with the glory of my Father and the holy angels.”

We have been blessed by God. Mrs. Becky More (she used to go to our church). She just bought a new car, then she went to my dad’s work and said that she had to many so she said that she would give us the car but since we are not family she will sell it to us for $1. It is in perfect working order even though is a 1998 Queen Victorian. Yesterday my mom got the license plate so we drove it the first time today.
Our parents have been praying about how to get a new car too. 🙂 😛
Well good! 🙂 I’m really looking forward to next Sunday! Oh and my friend might be coming!! 🙂 she’s from my 4-H club! 🙂
Oh cool! Is your friend a believer?
Yes she is, she use to go to church, but I invited her so she can continue to go to church!(: she really wants to go to our church!
I hope you know Micah, this is helping me alot! Thanks! 🙂
I’m glad to hear that Chyanne! 🙂 It helps me alot too!
You’re right, they are both talking about how Jesus was on Earth and was tempted like us, so he knows what it was like to walk on Earth and he will Judge us, so we have someone who has walked on Earth and knows what it’s like to be here on Earth.
I’m really bad at seeing similarities lol I’m sorry
No problem. I guess I didn’t mean similar as much as I meant related to each other. Hebrews 4:15 talks about how Jesus can relate to our sin. He knows what it is like to be tempted. Romans 8:34 talks about how Jesus is in heaven interceding for us before God when we fall into temptation.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin (Heb 4:15).
34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died — more than that, who was raised to life — is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us (Rom 8:34).
Does that make sense? What are your thoughts on my input of how these verses intertwine?
And I’d say yes they’re are some similarities. Like it says that God is above all in Hebrews, and that’s basically what it says in Romans
Do you see any other similarities?
Well it was the verse of the day in my Daily Bread. Today it is Mark 8:36. And I learned that Jesus will love us no matter what and nobody can change that. And yes 🙂 I’m glad we’re talking in here!
Wow! Great reminder.
I like the verse in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give things for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I do this for many things. When I get a good grade on a test or after I run cross-country and I do good.
What about giving thanks in bad times? What do you think about that?
well sometimes I forget
Well sometimes after I run and I didn’t beat my time and I had a bad cramp I do give thinks that I didn’t stop running or faint.
Today was a pretty stressful day and I didn’t do well thanking God for it. So when I advice you to thank God during the hard times know that I am working on it too! OK?
OK 🙂
During the summer I start reading the Bible from the beginning and I got bored near the end of Genesis. I want to keep on reading it during school but I never have time between band and cross-country. I will try to start reading it again as much as I can but this time I will start in Psalms. Like Chyanne said
🙂 🙂 :0 :0 😛 😛
Reading the bible can definitely feel like a chore sometimes. I like the idea of you trying to read the whole bible but have you ever considered getting a devotional for teens? How often do you and your family go to the Christian Book Store or Gift in Bible. They have a lot of great bible study tools. Something else that can really help a bible study is purchasing an actual studybible. Christmas is coming up. Maybe Santa can put one in your stocking haha!!!
Well I do have one but I usually never have time to read it.
🙁
A teen devotional or a studybible?
It is a devotional for young women
Good for you! 🙂
Yey!!!!!!!!! 😛
Verse of the day, “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died- more than that, who was rised to life- is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sward? As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered” Romans 8:34-36
Why did you choose Romans 8:34-36 for the verse of day? What is it about and what did you learn from it?
Wow! Great verse Chyanne. Read Heb 4:14-16 and let me know if you see any similarities between the two verses?
Well I just started, I’m on chapter 1. Haha and I read right before bed, and usually when I’m done with my homework. Reading the Bible really helps!
How does reading the bible help you? Give me a few examples.
p.s. I am super glad you are blogging Chyanne. It is really encouraging to me. 🙂
Well for a while I tried reading the Bible from beginning to end, but like Pastor Matt said, you’ll get bored by the time you get to Leviticus because all they are really doing is telling the names of all the kids of the men. So it’s better to read Psalms and Proverbs (that’s what Pastor Matt suggested), and that’s what I did. I’m reading Proverbs right now. Then I’ll read the New Testament. And be sure to ask if you don’t understand what something says, ask your parents or an older sibling. They can help you. And you can pray to God, asking him to help you remember to read the Bible everyday, and ask him to help give you strength to be able to get through your day. Trust in God!
Good advise Chyanne! What are you learning in the book of Proverbs? Do you have a special time and place where you read the bible?
hey everybody
Hello Davita, hows the beginning of your week going?
great!!!!!!!
🙂 😛
How has your week been?
Haha super busy! I moved to Kalamazoo to attend WMU and it has been an interesting transition compared to my community college experience. Thanks for asking.
🙂
Like we talked about in Sunday School, it helps us and pushes us to finish what we started! Like if we are having trouble remembering to read the Bible, we can remember this verse. We need to push ourselves to read the Bible and pray more!
I agree with that Chyanne. How do you go about reading your bible? Do you just pull out a random verse? What are some great bible reading methods? What are some things you can pray for to better help you walk with Christ?
Great post Chyanne! How does this verse keep you motivated to keep pressing forward? How can you apply it to your life? Give me some examples.
Noah, why is John 3:16 your favorite verse? Do you know who the author had in mind when he wrote this letter?
This is my favorite verse John 3:16
Olivia’s right! This verse does help us push on and finish what we start! We should defiantly apply this verse to our lives!
Thank you Miss Emily for todays lesson!
Hi! This verse helps me push on and finish what I started.
